Sometimes a recipe comes along that I suppose just warrants two posts. I’ve already written about this recipe – almost to the point of going overboard as it’s mentioned almost weekly in C’s picks but I just feel I had the need to write about it again.
You see, this pizza offers a sense of comfort and home unlike no other recipe. The smell alone brings back memories from almost 10 years ago. We were just newlyweds. No kids, minimal responsibilities…we’d devour this late at night with no thought of a 3am bottle or a 6am wake up of a kid bouncing on top of us demanding something completely appalling like ‘build a fort. NOW! BUILD A FORT NOW DADDY!!!!!!!’ Yes we’d blissfully sleep till 10 and then do whatever it is you do when you don’t have children. I can’t exactly seem to remember now.
The other night I was getting the pizza started. It’s summer, so the grill was going with the chicken and the sauce was simmering away on the stove while M slowly rocked B to sleep right above the kitchen. Unbeknownst to me while M swayed back and forth with our chubby bebe he was thinking just how perfect our pizza would taste. He had no idea it was on the agenda and already in the works right below him. I heard him tread down the stairs (score! B is asleep) and into the kitchen he practically ran with a huge smile on his face. ‘Are we having our pizza?’ He smelled the sauce. It’s pretty distinct.
‘Yes, we are’ I replied with a huge smile. I wondered if that smell was going to produce the same reaction in another decade…or two. I sure hope so.
What is this magical recipe? Well, you can find it here. I updated it with fresh from the market mozzarella and gorgonzola. The chives were snipped from my garden and the chicken was of course grilled. Let’s call this the summer version.
It tasted better than ever. Just like it seems to each and every time we make it.
