“Halloween’s coming, skeletons will be after YOU!” I hope you know the song I’m referencing. Preschool? Anyone? Ok. It’s Halloween prep around here, and I wanted to share some of our spooky ideas that are major players in our get-together with close family and friends. Eek! Can’t wait.
This black bean soup. It’s everything. Not only is it insanely delicious and healthy, but, I cook it up in a big black pot and totally pretend I’m a witch.
Essie’s Devils advocate, every year.
What are your kids dressing up as this year? B has picked out this frog costume. So random, but it totally works on him. L has reached the age where he’s too cool to actually dress up, so you basically take your sports jersey and make it scary. Obviously I nominated M to handle that.
Spider cookies are oh so scary. And oh so delicious.
It is so rainy and cold every. single. year. Hoping this year is different but if not, these rain boots are ready to go.
Spooky napkins are a must.
DYING over these bat socks. This is as far as I go in terms of dressing up because I am a boring person. Ordered.
I’ve mentioned this Bogle Phantom wine before on the blog as one of our favs. Perfect for a spooky night!
And going along with the wine… obviously you need these red cups, you know, for your own little treat while you’re chasing little goblins all over the neighborhood in the freezing cold.
Good luck to all parents on the scariest night of the year – that is, until the next day. Because nothing is scarier than kids who are hungover on sugar. Nothing.
What are some of your family’s must-have and must-do traditions for Halloween? Tell me all about it in a comment below!

You never were into Halloween…although thank my lucky stars I was your third wheel at Mark’s Halloween party 10 years ago!
Can you believe it’s been TEN YEARS?!
And those socks ARE super cute! Unfortunately I can’t wear socks around the house as they act as mini Swiffer pads for the all the dog hair…sexy.

Omg, I can’t believe it was that long ago!!! And yes, kids sort of force you into these things. I’m not dressing up by any means, but getting a bit more festive 😉
We always go to my parents house. Their neighborhood is perfect for getting LOTS of candy.

My family tradition is to binge watch scary/horror movies with all of the lights off in the house. It is super fun and makes for great family bonding.
We go to a Trunk or Treat at church every year – living out in the country there aren’t too many houses to hit up! And by the way, those spider cookies look so fun and easy!

We just carve the pumpkins and set them out. We take the kids trick or treating but it’s only people we know.

We usually have an indoor treat night with between 10-15 kids, and play all kinds of games, including cleaning out pumpkins and baking cookies. Everybody has a great time and all of the kids go home with big bags of candy. My kids never eat that candy – they skim and it’s still there 3 weeks later.

lol on the next day comment. My son and granddaughter will be trick or treating together this year. My son loves candy, my granddaughter’s mom won’t let her eat it. It’s going to be interesting, but we’ll make it work. 😉

We do not celebrate Halloween. It is always interesting to see how those who do adorn themselves and their homes.
Yum! Black bean soup sounds good right about now. Fall is the season for soups & stews in our house.
