In May of 2011 Real Simple came out with an article titled ‘the only cake story you’ll ever need.’ I’ve mentioned it here before, for Aunt Carolyn’s birthday!
Not only is it a beautiful display of cupcake and cake options, but, between all the information given you are left with 256,620 different creative options for your baking needs. Is your mind spinning?
The article is great not only for it’s options but it breaks the process of the cake down so simply. It’s a step by step for cake, frosting, and decor all set up in a very non threatening way. Let’s be honest, beautiful cupcakes and cakes – albeit delicious, can be a bit scary to attempt!
Well in the current state of our depressive weather I really thought there was not much else to do than bake some pretty cupcakes. They are wonderful to have setting out on the counter. They are wonderful to eat. And it’s wonderful to see your 6 year old’s face when he digs into one.
We went a pretty traditional route – chocolate cake, vanilla frosting, and sprinkles on top for that extra little punch.
It definitely was a much needed dose of happiness on a dreary winter day.

Please put these away. Leaving them out on the table all day is cruel. I’ve somehow managed to stay disciplined and “only” eat 2.
Bayou will “lay down the law” when I make cupcakes by the dozen saying that however many I make, he is entitled to 3/4 of them. And I wonder how he stays in shape when they are typically laced with some sort of booze!!
Oh sounds soo good, I would eat them all so might have to wait to make! Thanks for the direction, always need a good recipe
So pretty, I might need a frosting 101 course from you so I can make these for B’s gf and her bday party!
I would love to make some for my future daughter in law!!
