I’ve had a few inquiries via social media and in actual real life about my day to day skin care routine so I thought I would start by walking through my favorite go to trusted morning skincare products. It’s been nice to hear the comments and questions, as I’m totally partaking in the whole ‘self care’ for 2017 and making my skin a priority was apart of that. I’ve kept up with it very well, maybe only missing one night of washing my face so far this year. Way improved from barely washing it in the past. So without further ado, here are my go to’s and how I use them.
To begin, if you do not have a Clarisonic get one now. Or put it on a birthday wish list, a Mother’s Day wish list, anything. I thought I was washing my face in the past before, but I was not. This is the way to wash your face and I’m totally addicted. (So is this husband. He has his own in a more manly color of course).
Now, my favorite face wash. I’m addicted to Origins Checks and Balances. It’s so frothy. You only need a teeny tiny bit (read, it lasts) and I feel it gets my face deep down squeaky clean.
Next comes a serum because, you know, those are so in these days. I found this product about three years ago or so and haven’t turned back. It was recommended to me by a facialist at the only 5 star spa in the city of Chicago and it works beautifully. It literally drenches your skin in moisture and the correcting part works on evening out skin tone and minimizing pores. Perfect!
At this point I give my skin a break for the products to do their thing. I run a load of laundry downstairs, clean up breakfast, pack backpacks. I feel if you just layer product on product they sort of can get lost in each other and I like to give, especially the pricier serum, a chance to work it’s magic.
Ok maybe 10-15 minutes or so later I’m back upstairs and ready to moisturize. Doesn’t it seem like there are, literally, a million options on the market? I’m sure so many do what they do well but for some reason my go to is Origins A Perfect World. I’ve been using this on and off since getting married, and consistently for the last three years or so. I think maybe the smell is what draws me back, I was a baby when I first started using it! Ah, to be that young. It smells great, it moisturizes great, it protects with SPF all at a great price point. Why change this up? On the face it goes.
Time to kill some more time, ice packs in lunches, socks on Beckett, L out the door to the bus.
Back upstairs one last time to change out of pj’s and put on a fairly new product for me. Now that I’m 35 I guess I needed an eye cream? I was hesitant to add one. more. product. to my routine but lately I have really noticed those eye creases (mainly when I smile) so I thought it couldn’t hurt to try and do something about them. With a friend beginning to sell Rodan +Fields I thought I would give her some support while hopefully improving the skin around my eyes. The cream is very nice and while I haven’t noticed a huge difference in those smile creases, I have noticed the area to be much brighter and firmer, if that makes sense. Time will tell how it tackles those wrinkles although truth be told this is not a huge focus for me. Bring on the aging gracefully!
Lastly, a swipe of C.O. Bigelows my favorite night balm on the lips, which I use day and night especially in the winter, and I’m out the door. Nine out of ten days I don’t put on any make up until later in the day, again giving my skin a chance to breathe and let the products do their thing. Plus, no one really to impress at school drop off, pickleball, Target, and Heinens.
So that’s that. On top of all this, I drink an insane amount of water a day. I’m talking crazy amounts. I lean very thirsty though due to medicine I am on for my thyroid. I often joke that it’s a daily chore to keep my thirst under control. Other than that though, this is it. All my secrets. I’d love to hear if you’ve tried any of these, or what products you swear by in the morning for your skin. Stay tuned for my night routine to come!

I have always been hesitant to dive into a Clarisonic with sensitive skin. I remember trying those Bare Mineral foundation applicators required you to literally grind the powder into your face. Well…my face wasn’t happy with the bristles rubbing on my face like that 🙂
But yes, serum IS a thing…and it’s fabulous!
