Do you ever wonder other moms secrets? Like actual real beautiful day to day hard working moms? So often I see a darling one at the park and think wow, she looks so great! I wonder what she is doing so well. With that in mind I thought I’d begin a new series on ALFS – Everyday Moms. These are moms I know, moms that have been recommended to me, moms that inspire and are beautiful inside and out. Let’s peak into their lives just a bit, shall we?
Meet Meg!
Location: Winston-Salem, NC
Job: Director of Strategy and Relationships at bswift
Kids: Sarah (10) and Alice (8)
You’re in your closet – what do you reach for first? My running shoes. I love to walk/run with my family. I’m also a fast walker, even in the grocery story, so I like my feet to be comfy.
Hands down the one beauty product you can’t live without. Only one! Lip balm. I have lip balm in almost every room of my house, on my night stand, in my bag, in my car, on my desk. I hate needing it and not having it.
Your daily moisturizer. Are you happy with it? Currently, I’m using Shiseido Benefiance WrinkleResist24 Day Cream. I really like it, but I change moisturizers every few months. I use coconut oil in the winter.
Your nightly moisturizer. Are you happy with it? L’Oreal Revitalift Night Cream. I am happy with it, but like my day cream, I change it periodically if I read reviews that make me want to try another brand.
Something in your shopping cart online right now that you want to buy – budget is no limit. That’s a toughie. Maybe a new sewing machine with a serger. (A total dream!)
How do you feel your beauty routine changed when you became a mom? I didn’t have a time-consuming routine before, but I definitely have less time to make myself presentable than I once did. I try to limit choices so I can get ready faster (I have worn the same earrings almost every day since my 10 year old daughter was born). More pony tails and less make-up.
Biggest indulgence you allow yourself. Aside from an occasional massage, I get a lot of enjoyment from a latte on the weekend. It’s not big, but it’s impact is big. I like looking forward to sipping one and catching up with my husband on the weekend, or taking it with me on a stroll with my dogs and family.
Tell us about your kid(s). Two girls, Sarah (10) and Alice (8). They are very close, and very different. It can be challenging from a parenting perspective, but it’s nice that they are able to learn from each other’s personalities. They are so much fun to be around.
What is your biggest struggle as a mom day to day? I am a Myers-Briggs introvert, which means I need alone time to recharge. It’s hard sometimes to find that quiet time when I need it most. It’s also hard to keep things clean, but I tell myself there will be time to clean later. Someday, I will miss the mess!
What is your biggest happiness as a mom day to day? Spending time doing everyday things with my kids: Decorating cookies, reading or singing in bed, finding fall leaves, going for a walk, watching bees on flowers, setting the table, going to the grocery store, snuggling up in front of a good movie. When your kids are younger, their abilities change every few months. For example, at the grocery store, they go from sitting in the cart, to helping push it, to pushing it and helping you by getting things on other aisles, and you are able to enjoy them in different ways as time passes.
Snap your fingers – you could have a magic fairy help you with one thing around the home every day. What is it? Cleaning and organizing. If my fairy does a good job, I’ll get her a latte, too.
Because you are oh so pretty, tell us about your favorite feature! I have a fairly big, smile-shaped scar on my right shin that I love. It’s not a beauty feature by any stretch, but it’s something I’ve had since I was little that is uniquely “me.” I got 27 stitches after falling on some barnacles at the beach when I was 8 years old. That part wasn’t fun, but I’ve always liked my scar.
Got to love a fast walker! And I so hear you on the introvert thing – oh so relatable. Thank you, Meg, so much for sharing your time and darling family with ALFS!
