L: After a big Bears win (so I’m told – I didn’t watch a minute) we had to go with the adorable long sleeve Bears tee from an old preschool buddy, Tyler. Gap slim jeans on the bottom and bed head on top.

B: Ok, he is being overly dramatic here as all L is doing is preventing him from flinging himself off the bed. Mean brother. He’s wearing dirty painter pants from Gap courtesy of L (hence the dirty part) and his tee cracks me up. It’s so funny hearing people try and pronounce it…..’aaaaoook.’ No. It’s a ok. Get it? The line by Amy Tangerine is to thank for the cleverness.

C: Momma had a meeting this past week! Like a real grown up adult meeting – very exciting. I also managed to fit in a few errands as well and of course all I could think about while picking up diaper rash cream at Target is that I wished B was with me. And whew – walking in heels! I feel like I need a lesson as it’s been awhile. Top is by CABI, skirt is by Etcetera (love!), shoes are Nine West, and necklace is J Crew.

A Monday fix.

double chocolate chip cookies

It was something about it being a Monday after a jam packed weekend that only a double chocolate chip cookie could provide that extra jolt needed to get through the day. I’m in love with my go to chocolate chip cookie recipe, but somedays you just need to double up on the chocolate. Am I right?

I loved this double chocolate chip cookies recipe because it is so similar to my usual one so it feels comfortable when I’m baking away. Things need to be simple, especially when there is a toddler trying to climb your leg.

In less than 24 hours we were down to only four of these left, no joke. And they are calling my name again as I write this…

Ridiculously good.

Double Chocolate Chip Cookies

Ingredients
  1. 2 cups all-purpose flour
  2. 3/4 cup Cocoa
  3. 1 teaspoon baking soda
  4. 1/2 teaspoon salt
  5. 1 cup butter, softened
  6. 2/3 cup sugar
  7. 2/3 cup packed brown sugar
  8. 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  9. 2 eggs
  10. 1 cup semi sweet chocolate chips
  11. 1 cup white chocolate chips
Instructions
  1. Preheat your oven to 350 degrees F.
  2. Combine flour, cocoa, baking soda and salt in a medium bowl.
  3. Beat butter, sugar, brown sugar and vanilla extract in a large mixing bowl until creamy - roughly 2-3 minutes.
  4. Beat in eggs, one at a time.
  5. Gradually beat in flour mixture. Stir in chips.
  6. Drop by rounded tablespoon onto ungreased baking sheets.
  7. You can line with parchment paper, should you choose.
  8. Bake for 9 to 11 minutes or until cookies are puffed and centers are set but still soft.
  9. Cool on baking sheets for 2 minutes; remove to wire racks to cool completely.

There was a watermelon eating moose spotted at Heinen’s this weekend!

Alright, another week – here we go:

Sunday night we will enjoy a cozy dinner in with some old friends. They recently moved a lot closer to us (yippee!) so a nice meal to celebrate is a must. I made this sauce on Saturday and will toss it was some fresh pasta tonight. Tia is bringing a salad and I’ll have classic chocolate chip cookies for dessert.

Somehow I was a crazy person and scheduled B’s 15 month appointment and L’s 7 year check up both on Monday but at different times. What was I thinking? L’s will be easy peasy but his is after B’s. Soooo I will be dragging B back to the scene of the crime (aka shot place) later in the day. I typically leave the DR’s a sweaty disheveled mess so a super easy 10 minute dinner, t-ball tacos, will be on the agenda.

I’m so in love with this lentil soup – will be a nice warm up on a chilly fall day. So healthy! Baked garlic naan on the side.

Wednesday night let’s go with this baked lemony chicken with potatoes and green beans. One dish love!

Thursday night will be another night of the lentil soup – this one doesn’t get old, promise!

It’s been awhile since we’ve had our pizza – let’s go with that on Friday.

1770 house meatloafYou guys how come no one told me about Friday Night Lights until recently? Since that point we have been averaging 2-3 episodes per night for a few weeks here. We are deep in the thick of it and it’s just…wrong. There have been times I’ve said no to doing something more social – you know, like talking with legitimate people instead of sitting in front of the TV thinking the coach’s wife is my actual friend. I am obsessed with these characters and right now in my mind, they are real. Especially Tim Riggins.

Anyway, recently M and I found ourselves with an unexpected open Saturday night. With L being gone with Grammie and the bebe heading to bed around 7:00, we had one perfect night set up to entertain friends.

Or sit in front of the TV and chow down on homemade meatloaf.

Any guesses what we went with?

You’ve got it. Football, a fire, a great glass of Pinot Noir, and a famous to die for rustic meatloaf recipe all the way from East Hampton’s 1770 House. The kicker is the homemade garlic sauce that goes on top. A ‘W’ all the way…!

1770 House Meatloaf

Ingredients
  1. 2 tablespoons good olive oil
  2. 2 cups chopped Spanish onion (1 large)
  3. 1 1/2 cups small-diced celery (2 stalks)
  4. 1 pound ground beef
  5. 1 pound ground veal
  6. 1 pound ground pork
  7. 1 tablespoon chopped fresh flat-leaf parsley
  8. 1 tablespoon chopped fresh thyme leaves
  9. 1 tablespoon chopped fresh chives
  10. 3 extra-large eggs, lightly beaten
  11. 2/3 cup whole milk
  12. 2 tablespoons kosher salt
  13. 1 tablespoon freshly ground black pepper
  14. 2 1/2 cups panko (Japanese bread flakes)
  15. Garlic Sauce (see recipe below in notes)
Instructions
  1. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F.
  2. Heat the olive oil in a large saute pan over medium heat.
  3. Add the onion and celery and cook for 5 to 7 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the onion is translucent but not browned.
  4. Set aside to cool slightly.
  5. Place the beef, veal, pork, parsley, thyme, chives, eggs, milk, salt and pepper in a large mixing bowl.
  6. Put the panko in a food processor fitted with the steel blade and process until the panko is finely ground.
  7. Add the onion mixture and the panko to the meat mixture.
  8. With clean hands, gently toss the mixture together, making sure it's combined but not compacted.
  9. Place a piece of parchment paper on a sheet pan.
  10. Pat the meat into a flat rectangle and then press the sides in until it forms a cylinder down the middle of the pan (this will ensure no air pockets).
  11. Bake for 40 to 50 minutes, until a thermometer inserted in the middle reads 155 degrees F to 160 degrees F.
  12. Remove from the oven and allow to rest for 10 minutes.
  13. Slice and serve hot with the Garlic Sauce.
Notes
  1. Garlic Sauce
  2. 3/4 cup good olive oil
  3. 10 garlic cloves, peeled
  4. 2 cups chicken stock, preferably homemade
  5. 3 tablespoons unsalted butter, at room temperature
  6. Kosher salt and freshly ground black pepper
  7. Combine the oil and garlic in a small saucepan and bring to a boil.
  8. Lower the heat and simmer for 10 to 15 minutes, until lightly browned.
  9. Be careful not to burn the garlic or it will be bitter.
  10. Remove the garlic from the oil and set aside. (I save the oil for vinaigrettes.)
  11. Combine the chicken stock, butter and cooked garlic in a medium saucepan and bring to a boil.
  12. Lower the heat and cook at a full boil for 35 to 40 minutes, until slightly thickened.
  13. Mash the garlic with a fork, whisk in 1/2 teaspoon salt and 1/4 teaspoon pepper, and taste for seasonings.
  14. Spoon the warm sauce over the meatloaf.

Another week of what WE wore wednesday! This is your time to make the effort (and I get it, sometimes it’s a huge effort) to get out of the black yoga pants and into something cute. You also get to show case your little one, hey – it’s a win win around here! Show off below by commenting or post on Facebook. Thanks for playing along with us!

This week we had a coloring date on the floor before we were off to Grandad and Grandma Ginger’s for Sunday dinner (delicious, btw).  And by coloring I mean B dumping out the entire box of crayons and spreading them around the kitchen floor while L tries to reign it in and actually color. I’m saying a lot of things like ‘no B, we don’t throw crayons at our brother’s head’ and ‘no B, we don’t color on the dishwasher’ and ‘no B, we don’t eat the crayon.’ L is saying a lot of ‘Noooooooooo Beeeeeeeckett!!!!!!!! Mom….!!!!!!!!!’ Here is what we wore:

L: Orange checkered dress shirt from Gap and skinny slim jeans – also from the Gap. Doesn’t he look dashing?

B: Gap skull jeans (I know, he’s in these practically every week). On top is a vintage Gap piece courtesy of L. It’s quite surreal when he wears L’s old pieces. It’s like we made the same baby.

C: How fun is the striped peplum top? I was so excited to find this piece from The Loft – peplum is a great friend to people like me (straight up and down). My fav jeans of the season on the bottom (AG skinny straight) and Frye boots down low.
