Do you ever wonder other moms secrets? Like actual real beautiful day to day hard working moms? So often I see a darling one at the park and think wow, she looks so great! I wonder what she is doing so well. With that in mind I thought I’d begin a new series on ALFS – Everyday Moms. These are moms I know, moms that have been recommended to me, moms that inspire and are beautiful inside and out. Let’s peak into their lives just a bit, shall we?
Meet Cathy!
Location: Arlington Heights, IL
Job: Internal Medicine Physician
Kids: Matthew (10), Lucas (7), Jacob (5)
You’re in your closet – what do you reach for first? If I’m not working, workout clothes. I’d live in them if I could, whether I work out or not. I’m not even partial to a specific brand but I do like my colors to coordinate and often the shirt is gear from a race that I ran in (like the Chicago Marathon!) that I’m proud of.
Hands down the one beauty product you can’t live without. Only one! Mascara – Benefit They’re Real in black. I’ve tried many brands and always go back to this one, even though its pricey.
Your daily moisturizer. Are you happy with it? Murad Oil-control mattifier. Mostly happy with it, it helps me control my oily skin while providing SPF. So many others are too thick and rich and make me break out.
Your nightly moisturizer. Are you happy with it? Murad – Acne and Wrinkle Reducer. I like this one because it acts as a treatment for my acne-prone skin overnight.
Something in your shopping cart online right now that you want to buy – budget is no limit. Louis Vuitton Neverfull Purse! I’ve been eyeing one for a long time and just haven’t taken the plunge to make the purchase. I also am struggling with which of the 3 sizes and all the many options…
How do you feel your beauty routine changed when you became a mom? Well, it’s definitely simpler on the makeup side but on the skincare end I am more diligent about washing and caring for my skin as I have gotten into my 30s.
Biggest indulgence you allow yourself? Physical fitness. I lift weights twice weekly and run 3-4 times a week including a longer run with a good girlfriend on the weekend when time permits. I like hot yoga too but only rarely squeeze it in. I find fitness is it not good for my body but also my emotional well-being and my energy is better now than it was in my 20s since incorporating more activity.
Tell us about your kid(s). We have 3 boys – ages 9,7 and 5. My oldest is intelligent, a natural leader and wants to be the best – a rather typical 1st born. Our middle son is compassionate, thoughtful and has the biggest smile and heart ever. The youngest is strong-willed, incredibly talkative and very physical. They are at the same time great friends and rivals.
What is your biggest struggle as a mom day to day? Where do I begin…it’s the calendar. I am very organized but even on good days the calendar can seem too full. I now realize why my mom had 2 kids because that 3rd one nearly puts us over the edge with the complexity!
What is your biggest happiness as a mom day to day? It’s the little moments with my boys – stories and prayers at bedtime, snuggles on the couch in rare downtime, one-on-one with each child to really connect with their unique personalities. I especially love that from time to time my oldest will still call me “Mommy” as I know those days are numbered.
Snap your fingers – you could have a magic fairy help you with one thing around the home every day. What is it? Picking up and putting away toys, especially Legos! The kids will do it when nagged but it’s never as organized as I would prefer.
Because you are oh so pretty, tell us about your favorite feature! That would have to be my eyes. I like that they are dark in contrast to my light skin and I like highlighting them with makeup when I have time.
Lovely, Cathy. Got to love a fellow boy mom and a doctor at that, impressive my friend! I’m so rooting for that LV neverfull for you – I say go with the medium size. Thank you for sharing your darling family with ALFS!
