I have a love hate relationship with the mini grocery shopping cart for kids. For L? Totally adorable and appropriate. He is 6. When he was a toddler and insisted on one? Oh dear Lord. That was a terrifying time. I think I did more time chasing him/making sure he didn’t ram the cart into people’s ankles than actually shopping. Inevitably, he would ram the cart into people’s ankles (how else does a toddler boy push a mini cart?) and then the melt down would ensure from there. His and mine.
I’m happy to say we are currently in the grocery shopping stage of life where L totally rocks and B is content wherever I choose to plop him. Give it a year or so and I’ll be back to chasing that damn mini cart…
Also? I must add. I refuse to ever put my kids in those huge car/cart contraptions. Seriously. Whoever invented those hates moms. Have you ever tried to maneuver one of those? I’m just saying. And then you leave not only with your groceries but with a nice case of that week’s flu bug. So. gross.
Anyway, want to see what goes in L’s shopping cart at WF Kildeer? He picks some yummy things. Thought this might give you an idea or two for your littles.
-A variety of fresh fruit, always to include raspberries. This kid has expensive taste.
-Freshly squeezed OJ, again on the expensive taste…
-Croissants
-Honey fig bars (found in the bulk section in the middle of the store). Great snack!
-Probugs organic yogurt – I mean, it has silly bugs on the packaging. How clever. He picks a different flavor every week.
-Italian sausage (not the spicy kind)
-Black forest bacon – you haven’t had a real breakfast until you try this stuff. I have to stop L at 4 pieces.
-Horizon organic string cheese
-Freshly ground peanut butter – the red button is so fun to push!
At that point, his cart is pretty stuffed. Any favorites go into your little(s) carts?
Eat up!

Those shopping carts are ok with one child….I’ve seen moms with 4+ kids and they ALL have a cart. Sigh….luckily they have wine tastings at grocery stores now!
L has a great looking shopping cart!
